Peoria Docks

One of the areas I find very beautiful in this town are the docks down by the river, believe it or not. I never get tired of going down there to photograph them. They look different from season to season and I especially like them in the winter:

Just to orientate you (especially if you're not from around here), that bridge you see in the background is the Murray Baker. It carries I-74 over the Illinois River and into Peoria. To my left is the Peoria downtown area and to my right, across the river, is East Peoria--a completely separate, much smaller city.

5 spat at me...your turn:

What bridge is that? I have some family in the Peoria area, so I've been to the river a couple times but I don't think I've ever been to the area you photographed.

That's the Murray Baker Bridge. It carries I-74 over the Illinois River and through Peoria. I'm sure you've driven over that bridge if you've visited. It's one of the two bridges that go into downtown Peoria. The other one is fairly non-descript.

The other area you can see in the photo is part of the riverfront. The paddle-wheeled boat, The Spirit of Peoria, sits behind the red-roofed "house" you can see there.

Ah okay. When you said "Spirit of Peoria" I now know exactly the area you mean. In my mind I was on the other side of the bridge on the riverwalk area. Now that I think of it, the way I was thinking would put the river on the wrong side... silly me :)

Yeah, I've driven Murray Baker a few times, actually. And I think I've even been down to that area after all--maybe 10 years ago or so. Is that house where you can go to get tickets for the paddleboat ride? Seems that back then my uncle's girlfriend was going to take me on a boat ride, but they weren't running the boat the day we went down there. SO, to make a long story even longer... I guess I have been to that area--I was just a mite confused when I first saw it :)

And now that I've said all that... cool shot of the area!

those slips look so lonely and foreboding in the winter.

Sunshine, the house to buy the tickets is actually behind the red roofed building. I can't remember exactly what the red roofed building is but I think I remember it being some sort of fire department thing. I'll have to check next time I'm down there. I haven't been on the docks on this side in a few months.

Raising my kids Right, glad you liked the pic. ;)
